The Mobile Region’s Economy is Expected to Improve in 2022 According to Results from the Mobile Area Chamber’s Economic Outlook Member Survey

MOBILE, Ala. – According to the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce 2022 Economic Outlook Member Survey, 65% of respondents believe their business will be in better shape over the next year.

The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce released the results of the survey in conjunction with the State of the Economy program on January 12, 2022.

Each year, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce takes a pulse of the region’s business community through a survey of Chamber members to offer a perspective on the region’s economic competitiveness and the issues that will affect the business community in the coming year.

The 2022 survey was conducted in October 2021. Responses were received from 257 member businesses from 17 different industries.

While many respondents expect the country’s economy to be in somewhat worse shape in 2022, 52% of the respondents believe that the Mobile region’s economy will improve over the next 12 months.

“We are excited to see the optimism of member businesses that responded to our survey,” said David Rodgers, vice-president of economic development for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. “The State of the Economy event is always a great opportunity to share results and provide insights on economic development.”

The survey also showed that the top three most significant issues facing the business community were attracting & retaining qualified employees, the global supply chain and recovering from COVID-19.

When asked to rate their company’s performance expectations in 2022, most respondents are forecasting a slight increase in sales, profits and hiring with 65% believing their business will be in better shape over the next year.
