The Mobile County Public School System www.mcpss.com received a major financial boost in 2001 when local voters passed a tax referendum to increase funding for its schools. The following are a few of the assets that MCPSS has to offer:

  • Home of the Regional School for the Deaf and Blind

  • Career technical training in the health, industrial, & business occupations
The Environmental Studies Center, a 640-acre outdoor classroom, is one of the premier environmental and outdoor education centers in the Southeast. The center was recently named Alabama’s winner in the “Take Pride in America” competition.

The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science www.asms.net is a unique, residential public high school that attracts some of the brightest high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from all parts of the state and offers outreach programs for local students and schools.


The area has a large parochial school system operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile www.mobilearchdiocese.org/schools.cfm and many other schools operated through churches or private boards, such as: In all, there are more than 44 private and denominational schools in Mobile with an approximate enrollment of  14,750 students.

University of South Alabama

The University of South Alabama www.usouthal.edu is the area’s largest four-year institution with more than 13,000 students at campuses in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Students can work toward bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in a wide range of studies. USA will build the first academic cancer research institute in the central Gulf Coast region and has completed a research technology park on campus that works hand-in-hand with local businesses.

Spring Hill College

Spring Hill College, www.shc.edu founded in 1830, offers undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration, theology, liberal arts and education, as well as a division for lifelong studies for adults wishing to further their education. In 2001, Spring Hill was ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” survey, winning the No. 15 spot in the Universities-Master’s (South) category as one of the top schools with undergraduate and master’s programs.

University of Mobile

At the University of Mobile www.umobile.edu, students can work toward bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the arts, business, computer science, applied sciences, nursing and religious studies.

Bishop State Community College

Bishop State Community College www.bscc.cc.al.us has four campuses and offers associate degrees in arts and sciences, nursing and applied sciences. It also offers vocational training, certification and technical degrees.

Enterprise-Ozark Community College

The Enterprise-Ozark Community College – Mobile Aviation Center www.eocc.edu/mobile trains students to work in aviation maintenance and boasts a 95 percent job placement rate. It was the first two-year college to be designated as an official Federal Aviation Association Educational Resource Center and is among the first three in the nation to earn FAA Airway Science Recognition. Its new facility at Brookley Industrial Complex accommodates 300 students.

Faulkner University

Faulkner University www.faulkner.edu maintains an extension campus in Mobile where students can attain associate degrees in most major subjects.
