Why South Africa? In 2006, the U.S. exported $4.4 billion of good and services to South Africa. South Africa was the United States’ 34th largest export market in the world. Did you know: South Africa was the 29th largest export market for Alabama products and the 34th largest export market for U.S. products worldwide in 2006? Alabama exports to South Africa were $96 million and included vehicles, mineral fuels, industrial machinery, chemicals and railroad parts? Industrial machinery, vehicles, electric machinery, aircraft and optic and medical instruments attract the greatest U.S. investment? Leading sectors for growth include electrical power systems, telecommunications equipment, airport/ground support security, automotive parts/service equipment, transportation, infrastructure and civil construction, franchising, renewable energy, safety/security equipment, pollution control equipment, mining equipment, medical equipment, telecommunications services and sporting goods. The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce along with partners, Alabama Development Office and the Export Alabama Trade Alliance, are organizing a trade mission to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa August 15-23, 2008. The multi-industry mission will focus on matching participating Alabama companies with qualified agents, distributors, representatives, end-users and joint venture partners in this market. The mission is aimed at companies interested in entering the South African market, as well as those wishing to increase their business in South Africa.
