Mobile Works reported it has special training dollars to supplement a company's investment in training new employees. The organization can fund up to 90 percent in wage assistance when a company hires a qualified applicant for jobs paying at least $9 per hour.

For the last two weeks of February, the Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau recruited more than 5,000 convention goers who will account for more than 3,500 hotel room nights. There are three groups of at least 1,500 delegates each representing the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association, JAMfest Nationals and the American Farriers Association.

The Southern Growth Policies Board is taking nominations through Thursday, March 1, for its 2012 Innovator Awards. The awards honor initiatives that improve the economy and quality of life in the South, and specifically those efforts preparing Southerners to meet the workforce needs of a globally competitive business sector.
Innovator Awards are presented annually to one organization in each of Southern Growth's member states, including Alabama.

U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement representatives are conducting a free workshop offering information and tools to achieve IMAGE status Thursday, Feb. 9, in Memphis, Tenn.
